Flesh: Pale Yellow with a greenish hue
Complex, bold, and unmistakably distinct. Durian Petai is given its name due to its smell. When opened up, the durian emits a faint aroma of fresh petai, giving way to a layered profile with an fermented sensation and a satisfying bitter aftertaste reminiscent of more commercial XO variants. A rare durian, even amongst the indigenous community.
Petai – a bitter bean – is deeply embedded in the cuisine and culture of the Orang Asli. So much so, that the community has named this durian after it, which speaks to how central both plants are to their forest identity. The Durian Petai is rare, and limited in quantity during the harvest seasons. When it runs out, it’s gone until the forest decides otherwise.
