Step of the beaten path and into the heart of Malaysia’s Indigenous Heritage. The Serendah Indigenous Experience is a full-day immersion guided entirely by the Temuan community of Kampung Orang Asli Serendah. The very same people that have called this place home for generations.

 

This isn’t a tourist attraction. Our invitation is into a way of life of a tribe rooted in deep respect for the land, community, and cultural ways. One which has been navigating the preservation of culture and livelihoods, despite having urbanization arriving right through their doorsteps, and beyond. This is about walking with our harvesters, eating with our cooks, and spending time in nature’s serenity.

 

Experience Itinerary

08:30 – 09:00 – Arrival: Guest arrive at the village and are greeted by our local guides.

09:00 – 11:30 – Indigenous Hike: Our Serendah Guides take you through 3 Indigenous Hills. Providing you with stories of indigenous living in nature, cultural practices, and history of the area.

12:00 – 13:30 – Temuan Lunch: We serve you with the best Temuan cuisine available. From our harvesters who gather the harvest a day before, to our cooks who prepare the traditional flavour using recipes passed down from mother to daughter. We will cater meals to meet your dietary restrictions, if possible.

13:30 – 14:30 – Indigenous Games: Take a break and enjoy some time for games. Using the traditional blowpipe, learn and practice using the Sumpit, a traditional hunting weapon of Temuan hunters.

14:30 – 15:00 – Farewell: Time for pictures, gifts, and goodbyes

Purchasing Details

  1. We have a limitation of minimum 2 pax to activate purchase. This is to ensure we have hit the threshold to make the experience worthwhile for our community members.
  2. Minimum of 4 day lead time (from date of purchase). For our harvesters to gather your wild caught food and prepare to give you a great experience. For any further date changes, do contact us at admin@communityops.org

What’s Included

Base Experience @ RM180/pax

Indigenous Hike – Trek through 3 small indigenous hills with our Temuan Guides, who shares a deep relationship between people and forest. Learn directly from our indigenous guides regarding traditional land practices, discover plants used for food and medicine, and experience the forest, the way the Temuan have done so for generations. Hike takes approximately 2-hours.

 

Temuan Lunch – Sit down for a traditional Temuan meal, prepared by our wonderful Temuan cooks. Experience eating as a part of the Temuan community, right in their home. A serving using indigenous ingredients including herbs, vegetables, fruits, and flavours!

 

Indigenous Games – Try your hand at the traditional blowpipe and have a little competition to see who is the best hunter.

 

Optional Add-On
  1. Village Walk & Discovery – Walk through indigenous village and talk to locals with us.
  2. Air Terjun Serendah – Spend time with us at the public waterfall
  3. Private River Walk – Take a trip with us up the Serendah River to a private spot to enjoy nature and serenity

 

Why This Experience Matters

The Temuan people represents one of the largest and most significant group of indigenous people in Peninsular Malaysia, yet one of the least known. Their land, livelihoods, and culture face growing pressures from urbanisation and development.

Every booking directly supports our community members in Serendah. Revenue allows our guides to make a decent living while practicing and promoting their cultural ways. Putting monetary worth to upkeeping cultural practices. What’s more, we save a percentage of all sales profits to effect the larger community through Community Projects, Health & Education Programmes, Preservation of Cultural Practices, and Creating Sustainable Livelihoods.
